갤러리민님(GalleryMINNIM)은 2023년 3월 8일부터 4월 8일까지 <NPC : Neo-Produced Creation>展을 개최한다. NPC (non-player character)란 본래는 게임 안에서 플레이어가 게임을 진행하는데 도움을 주는 보조 캐릭터를 의미하지만 현재 새롭게 변화하는 미디어 환경안에서 예술이 갖는 창작과 생산의 문제를 매일 ‘새롭게 생산되는 창조물’이라는 의미로 재해석해보았다.
<NPC : Neo-Produced Creation>展은 각기 다른 연령대와 다른 시기에 다른 도시를 경험한 작가들의 관점에 주목하면서, 동시에 전시의 구성방식과 전시공간 안의 다중적인 관계를 이야기하고자 한다. 자연환경과 교감을 통한 작가들 스스로의 끊임없는 질문과 시선을 통해 수집된 유사한 관념들과 충돌속에서 형성되는 주관적인 세계관을 시각적으로 제시함으로써, 자연이 주는 위로와 영적인 자유를(최성윤) 동시대와 맺어가는 관계 속에서(진케이리) 환경의 다양한 생동감있는 장면들을 포착하고(송세정) 창작을 통해 흥미로운 구조적융합의 실물들을 만들어, 관념적이상(理想)으로서의 미(美)(박세호) 를 탐구한다.
우리는 매일 새롭게 생산되는 창작물을 그저 익숙하고 일상적인 감각으로 경험하곤 한다. 그러나 이번 전시를 통해 작가의 시선과 관계 사이에서 발생하는 다중적인 창작 현상을 마주하다 보면 예술을 보다 새로운 감각으로 경험할 수 있게 될 것이다. 조민혜 (갤러리민님 디렉터)
GalleryMINNIM will hold the <NPC: Neo-Produced Creation> exhibition from March 8th to April 8th, 2023. NPC (non-player character) originally referred to supporting characters that assist players in games, but it has been reinterpreted to mean "newly produced creations" in the rapidly changing media environment, which poses challenges to the creation and production of art.
The exhibition <NPC: Neo-Produced Creation> aims to highlight the perspectives of artists who have experienced different cities at different times and ages, while also exploring the relationships between the exhibition's composition and the multiple dimensions of the exhibition space. Through the artists' constant questioning and gaze in harmony with nature, the exhibition visually presents subjective worldviews that are formed in collisions with similar concepts collected through interactions with nature, capturing various lively scenes of the environment (Song Se-jeong) and creating interesting structurally fused physical objects through creation to explore the ideal beauty (Park Seho) as a conceptual ideal. Concurrently, it seeks to establish a relationship between the contemporary era and the comfort and spiritual freedom offered by nature (Choi Sung-yoon and Jin K Lee).
We often experience newly produced creations with a familiar and everyday sense, but through this exhibition, we will encounter the multiple creative phenomena that arise from the perspectives and relationships of the artists, which will allow us to experience art in a new way. 순백(純白)의 유명(有明)과 순흑(純黑)의 무명(無明), 그리고 이 멀고 가까운 둘 사이에 존재하는 모든 빛깔들이 다양한 선(線)과 면(面)과 색채(色彩)로 나타 나 함께 이루어 내는 흥미롭고 새로운 구조적(構造的) 균제(均齊)의 완결성(完結性) - 바로 이 것이 내가 추구하는 조형작업(造形作業)의 원점(原點)이자 지향점(指向点)이다.

나는 자연이 주는 위로와 영적인 자유, 자연 파괴에 의한 환경변화가 가져온 당혹감과 위기감 등 자연과의 교감을 작업으로 기록하고 있다. 자연과의 교감이 일어나는 그 순간, 현장감을 붙잡아 기록하고 자연에 대한 관찰을 작품에 반영한다. 작업은 자연 모티브를 소재로 한 것이지만, 자연의 재현보다는 자연과의 교감을 주제로 한다.

I am recording my communication with nature through my artwork, including the comfort and spiritual freedom nature provides, as well as confusion and a sense of crisis brought about by environmental changes caused by natural destruction. When I experience this communication with nature, I capture the sense of the moment and reflect my observations of nature in my work. Although my work is based on natural motifs, the theme is not the reproduction of nature, but rather the communication with nature.

현재 영상을 주요 매체로 작업하고 있다. 관객에게 보여지는 작업의 결과물들은 대부분 디지털 영상이지만 하나의 작품이 완성되기까지 다양한 과정들: 텍스트, 드로잉, 공간 설치, 퍼포먼스 등이 동반된다. 작품이 완성되기까지 이러한 과정들이야 말로 창작 행위의 큰 즐거움이며 원동력임에도 불구하고 과정에서 파생된 부산물들은 늘 충분한 관심을 받을 기회를 얻지 못 한 체 전시장 뒤 편에 물러나 있곤 한다.
이번 NPC 展 (Neo Produced Creation)에서 소개할 두 가지 신작들은 바로 어떠한 작품을 완성해 가는 과정에서 우연히 제작된 사진 작업과 드로잉 작업들이다. 이 작업들은 하나의 작품이 완성이 되기까지 창작자 스스로조차 때로는 막막하게 느껴지는 여정에서 찾아온 예기치 않은 손님들이다. 나는 관객들이 이 작업들을 마주하며 온전히 하나의 작품으로 대할 수도 동시에 이 작품을 통해 아직 보이지 않지만 곧 존재하게 될 목표 지점 어딘가의 또다른 작품을 희뿌연 구름 속에서 자유로이 상상해 볼 수 있을 것만 같다.

I am currently working primarily with video as my medium. The results of the work presented to the audience are mostly digital videos, but there are various processes, such as text, drawing, spatial installation, performance, etc., that accompany the completion of a single work. Despite the fact that these processes are the source of great pleasure and motivation in the act of creation, the byproducts that arise from the process often remain unnoticed behind the exhibition hall.
The two new works I will introduce at the NPC (Neo Produced Creation) exhibition are photo and drawing works that were created accidentally during the process of completing another work. These works are unexpected guests that sometimes come during a journey that even the creator may feel uncertain about completing a single work. I hope that viewers can face these works as a single piece and at the same time freely imagine another work that will soon exist somewhere in the hazy clouds through this work.

반려동물을 키우면서 생명의 소중함에 대해 깨닫고 우리가 살아가고 있는 환경에 관심이 높아졌다. 환경파괴에 대해 그리고 동물과 더불어 살아가는 세상에 대해 고민하게 되었고 내가 할 수 있는 것이 무엇인가 생각하게 되었다.
자연으로부터 많은 영감을 받기에 자연환경이 파괴되고 오염되는 것이 작가에게는 그 누구에게 보다 더 치명적이다. 아름다운 자연과 그 속에서 살아가는 동물들의 보호는 작가 작품의 주제이자 작품 활동의 원동력이다. 도시 속에서 살아가는 사람들이 단 한 명이라도, 단 한 번이라도 자신의 작품을 통해 자연보호에 대한 경각심을 느낄 수 있도록 오늘도 작가는 화폭에 아름다운 자연환경을 그리고 있다.

While raising a pet, I came to realize the preciousness of life and became interested in the environment in which we live. I started to contemplate environmental destruction and a world where humans coexist with animals, and thought about what I could do. As I draw a lot of inspiration from nature, environmental destruction and pollution are more fatal to me than to anyone else. Protecting the beautiful nature and the animals that live within it is both the theme of my artwork and the driving force behind my artistic activity. Even if just one person living in the city can feel a sense of awareness about nature conservation through my artwork, the artist continues to paint the beautiful natural environment on the canvas.
