Digital Flâneurie(디지털 플라네르)

 

갤러리민님(GalleryMINNIM)은 2023년 5월 22일부터 6월 19일까지 김상민 사진전 <Digital Flâneurie>를 개최한다.  Flâneur(플라네르)는 '산책자', '도시를 유유히 거니는 자'라는 의미로 19세기 초 프랑스에서 처음 등장한 개념이다.

당시 오늘날의 현대적인 도시로 탈바꿈한 파리는 신개념의 공간인 아케이드와 그 속에 즐비하게 들어선 상점들의 쇼윈도우 속 진열품을 구경하기 위해 몰려든 군중으로 가득했다. 이러한 도시를 여유롭게 배회하는 flâneur에게는 아케이드가 제시하는 다채로운 풍경도, 그것을 보러 몰려든 군중 자체도 흥미로운 볼거리였으며 관찰의 대상이었다. 이러한 즐거운 관찰을 통해 flâneur는 다양한 경험을 감상, 수집하며 이에 대해 사색하고 공유하기도 했다. 상징주의 시인 보들레르와 철학자 발터 벤야민은 당시 대표적인 flâneur로, 그들의 창작물은 flâneurie와 깊은 연관을 맺고 있다.

 

오늘날 우리 현대인의 삶은 너무나도 많은 볼거리로 가득 차 있다. 특히, 디지털 기술의 진화로 인해 우리가 '산책(flane)하며 관찰하는 공간의 범위는 가상의 공간으로까지 확대되었고 이에 우리 flâneurie의 범위도 확장되었다. 유유히 거니는 도중 여러 이미지와 조우하게 되고 이를 통해 복합적인 생각들이 만나게 된다. 자신 또는 타인의 경험, 꿈, 욕망을 드려다 볼 수도 있으며 과거, 현재, 미래를 반영해 볼 수도 있다. 때로는 긍적적일수도 그리고 때로는 그 반대일 수도... 그 어떠한 사색일지라도, '디지털 플래너리(Digital Flâneurie)’는 이러한 관찰과 생각들이 펼쳐지는 산책의 공간을 제시하고자 한다.

 

 

Digital Flâneurie

GalleryMINNIM presents "Digital Flâneurie: Kim Sangmin Photography Exhibition" from May 22, 2023, to June 19, 2023. Flâneurie, a term originating in 19th-century France, embodies the concept of a "stroller" or a "wanderer" who leisurely roams around the city.
 

The present concept of flâneur took shape around the beginning of the 19th century when modern life started in big cities like Paris. At the time, many arcades were designed to attract middle-class people and many shops inside the arcades decorated their show windows to capture people's interest. As a result, Paris was filled with the crowd wanting to enjoy the spectacle. Such imagery of the city and the crowd was a pleasing view to observe for the flâneur. Wandering about the city, the flâneur would observe and collect many experiences, be lost in thoughts, and also creatively share such experiences. Poet Charles Baudelaire and philosopher Walter Benjamin, who were flâneurs themselves described the flâneur as an essential figure of modernity.
 

Nowadays, our contemporary life is filled with spectacle. Especially with the evolution of digital technolo gy, our range of flâneurie has expanded even to the virtual world. As we wander about physically or vir tually, we run into so many different images, and through this, our thoughts start to bloom. We can so metimes look into one's or other's experience, dream, desire, etc. Or we can reflect on our past, present , or future. It may sometimes be positive or otherwise...

Whatever the thoughts may be, 'Digital Flâneurie’ invites you to wander around, observe and speculate. (Kim Sangmin)
